E-pistle shares a portion of a weekly email sent to friends and members of Park Presbyterian Church in Beaver, Pennsylvania, from Pastor Bill Teague. Bill will be leaving Beaver and Park Church on January 7, 2008, as he accepts a call to become pastor of Langhorne Presbyterian Church in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. You'll find the Langhorne version of the e-pistle here

5 DAYS ‘TIL ASH WEDNESDAY
30 HOURS WITHOUT FOOD
ENCAMPAMENTO
5 Days ‘til Ash Wednesday: The Lenten season begins Wednesday, March 1, and we will begin our journey to the cross with an Ash Wednesday communion service at 7:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. This service of music, Word and Sacrament will provide an important beginning to the 40 days of discipline that lead us to the Day of Resurrection. I encourage all who are able to join us on Wednesday.

SHOUT TO THE LORD (JOYFULLY)!
The email version of the E-pistle always includes a list of prayer concerns, usually naming the anmes of those for whom we are praying. The list normally includes the ill, the recovering, and the mourning. Of course we pray for the needs the ill and the hurting, but we also pray with thanks for the lives of the some of the amazing people with whom God has allowed us to share the journey. For many of us, Mabel Miller is one of those amazing people. Yesterday was Mabel’s 99th birthday. I visited with Mabel at Beaver Meadows and as we talked, I marveled at the life of this great saint and gave thanks for the privilege of knowing Mabel (Mabel was still only 91 when we arrived in Beaver).

The Learning Church
Pastor Ronilton of our sister church in Brazil sends this message to all of us at Park: “Congratulations to the Steelers, the new Super Bowl Champions. I imagine that all of you are very happy and proud of your team. This really is a great victory — all about the national title! It’s very important. I am happy for you!”
Of course, not everyone is happy. I have received two forwards from friends asking that all Steelers fans go to the ESPN online poll and vote that the Steelers won Sunday’s game fair and square. The email alerts us to a sinister conspiracy that only you and I can stop: (more…)

Pray at all times?
Life Beyond the Game
Pray at ALL times? “Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances.” This was the Apostle’s advice for his friends in Thessalonica. But they didn’t have Super Bowls in Thessalonica (or maybe they did). Yes, the fans are praying for their teams. You can read all about the fans in Seattle and closer to home. So we pit the Seahawks with their Cathedral service tonight and their charismatic prayers on Sunday against our 82-year old nun, Sister Mary Ann Vasilchek, with her rosary beads and terrible towel.
